Privacy Policy — Orbi

Orbi is a browser extension that replaces your New Tab page with a customizable dashboard (live wallpapers and shortcuts) and adds an on-page panel for quick access to saved shortcuts and open tabs. This policy explains what data Orbi accesses, how it's stored, and who it's shared with.

Short version: Orbi does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data to any server we operate. Everything Orbi stores — shortcuts, wallpapers, settings — stays on your own device, in your browser's local extension storage. The only outside network requests Orbi makes are to fetch website icons (favicons), and those requests only include a domain name, never a full URL, page content, or any personal identifier.

What data Orbi accesses

To do its job, Orbi reads the following information from your browser:

The one thing that leaves your device: favicon lookups

When Orbi shows an icon for a shortcut, it first tries a standard favicon request. If a website's security settings block that request, Orbi falls back to asking for the icon from a small set of favicon lookup services:

Google's favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons)
DuckDuckGo's icon service (icons.duckduckgo.com)
The website's own favicon.ico file

These requests contain only the domain name of the shortcut (for example, example.com) — never the full URL, your browsing history, page content, or anything that identifies you personally. This is the same kind of request your browser already makes any time it loads a site's icon in a tab.

What Orbi does not do

Orbi does not collect or transmit your personal information, browsing history, or page content to any server we operate.
Orbi does not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.
Orbi does not track your activity across websites, log your keystrokes, or monitor network traffic.
Orbi does not use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Orbi does not read or store the content of pages you visit — only the tab metadata and visible-tab screenshot described above, both used solely to power the panel while it's open.

Data retention and deletion

All shortcuts, wallpapers, and settings are stored locally in your browser profile for as long as the extension is installed. Uninstalling Orbi, or clearing the extension's storage from your browser's settings, permanently deletes this data. Tab titles, URLs, and screenshot previews are never written to persistent storage — they exist only in memory while your browser session is running and are cleared automatically when a tab closes or the browser restarts.

Changes to this policy

If Orbi's data practices change in a future version, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change.
